SDLP enterprise spokesperson Dr Alasdair McDonnell has expressed his concern over Bank of Ireland’s redundancy plans over the next two years.
The bank said it would make 750 voluntary redundancies in the north and the Republic.
Dr McDonnell said: “I have expressed serious concern over these Bank of Ireland redundancies. It’s a key player in Northern Ireland’s financial sector and we cannot afford to have our limited banking services here further reduced.
“I acknowledge these redundancies will be sought on a voluntary basis, however, employees should not be put in this position where there are making tough decisions on their own financial security because of the mismanagement of financial institutions. The implications for staff and their customers will be hard felt.”
